Collection: Naturalia II — Everything Ends Up Beautiful

Naturalia II — Everything Ends Up Beautiful is a collection of abstract photographic works created from damaged negatives transformed by time, humidity and chemistry.

The series began while I was documenting the story behind Naturalia I. As I photographed the old negatives, I noticed that the colours visible on the physical film were more vivid than those in my original scans. I began looking at the material again, scanning the negatives as both negative and reversal film and combining the results to explore the unexpected colours, textures and forms hidden within them.

Where Naturalia I was about discovering nature's reclamation of the photograph, Naturalia II looks again at that transformation and finds something new within it.

The resulting works are luminous, layered and entirely unrepeatable — somewhere between photography, painting and natural process.

Each work is printed to order as an archival pigment print on Hahnemühle cotton-rag paper. The unusual 6 × 12 inch format gives the series a distinctive presence, working equally well individually or as a group.
